Biggest Shopping Complex in Slovenia to be Converted to “Bitcoin City”

Slovenian shopping center named “BTC City” is adopting a new strategy, aiming to implement cryptocurrency support for its 500 retail stores. The point-of-sale system used in the shopping center was provided by Fintech company Eligma, which aims to convert BTC City into “a business and shopping ecosystem based on the latest technological solutions including blockchain, AI, and cryptocurrencies.” The cryptocurrency payment system was personally tested by the Prime Minister of Slovenia Miro Cerar, who bought a cup of “crypto coffee” during his visit to the shopping complex. Eligma stated:

“The purpose of his visit was to open the Beyond 4.0 international conference, dedicated to digital society and blockchain, as well as to get acquainted with BTC City’s strategy to become Bitcoin City.”

Some of the retail stores started accepting Bitcoin through Elipay wallet back in April. The company also announced the addition of bitcoin cash and Elipay’s own loyalty rewards token in the near future. According to the BTC website, “Bitcoin City will create an open society which will enable users to pursue their missions as well as develop their business environments in line with their wishes, needs, and operating policies.”

Eligma’s Elipay is now available at a number of complex’s retail stores, including Atlantis water park, Al Capone, Babadu, Bijoux modni dodatki, Big Bang, istyle, Vodno mesto San Martino, Sneakers, Minicity, and Kibuba. The complex also hosts several one-way cryptocurrency ATMs, a Blockchain Think Tank and “biggest crypto mining rig in Slovenia.”
